Welcome to the
Official Website of Ray Littleturtle
Ray Littleturtle The eldest son of the late Raymond “Mr. Pete” Spotted Turtle and Estelle Clark, Ray was introduced to traditional southeastern culture as a part of his daily life and religious upbringing. His grandfather carried the long held traditions of the Red Man’s Lodge and passed those same ideals and customs along to his family.
After serving his county and protecting his people, Ray continued to be proactive in the American Indian traditional community and in the cultural reawakening that was taking place across Native America.
He also began serving as Master of Ceremonies
for the various powwows that were springing up across the East
Coast. For Ray, acting as an MC was and is much more than simply
speaking on the microphone. He was there to function as a liaison
between the native communities represented and those who were there
to learn. He worked tirelessly to ensure dancers and drummers alike
enjoyed the festivities and remembered they were there for the
people and the higher ideals he had been taught as a child. Today, Ray continues to serve his people as a member of the North Carolina Commission of Indian Affairs where he is the chairperson of the Culture and Religious Committee. He also serves on the United Tribes Board and Legal Services. Ray is a member of Berea Baptist Church and his greatest joy comes from seeing the traditions he saw hidden as a boy being practiced today by his children and their children.
